SAN DIEGO – The Wildcats put on an impressive performance at the ITA Southwest Regionals with one doubles pair advancing to the round of 16 and three players making it to the singles round of 32.
Kayla Wilkins and Reece Carter defeated Isabella Tcherkes-Zade and Sofia Munera (LMU) in the round of 32 after receiving a first round bye. They fell 8-4 against third-seeded Elizabeth Goldsmith and Kailey Evans (USD). The other three doubles pairs did not advance past the initial round.
Freshman Tanvi Narendran, Salma Ziouti and Midori Castillo competed in the third round of singles play before all falling to ranked players. Ziouti [17] received a bye in the initial round of 128 then took her first match in straight sets before No. 98 Kimmie Hance [9] knocked the graduate student out in a third set tiebreaker. Castillo [17] won both her first and second round matches in straight sets, but No. 46 Giulia Morlet [5] ended her journey in the round of 32. Narendran lost in straight sets to another Sun Devil No. 69 Domenika Turkovic [8]. Belen Nevenhoven, Parker Fry, Wilkins and Carter all made it to the round of 64 in singles competition.
Arizona is back at home next weekend for their Wildcat Invitational hosted Oct. 28-30 at Reffkin Tennis Center.
