CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Sam Bossem played his way into the 64-person Gold Draw at the 2022 ITA Atlantic Regionals after finishing in the top-8 of the Silver Draw. He will join Miko Eala in the Gold Draw competition beginning on Saturday, Oct. 22.
SINGLES
Bossem defeated William & Mary’s Alexander Karman, 6-0, 6-1 in the Silver Draw round of 32 to advance to the top-16. He earned a spot in the Gold Draw with a three-set victory over Julian Lozano from JMU 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2.
Also in the Silver Draw, Nittany Lion Charl Morgan made it to the round of 16 before being defeated on the court. He bested Alejandro Vedri-Castellano Asensi of Saint Joseph 0-6, 7-6(5), 6-3, before falling 7-6(2), 6-3 to Georgetown’s Kieran Foster.
In the silver singles consolation bracket, Malik Bhatnagar collected his first win of the fall season 6-3 against Youssef Sadek of JMU. Following after, Ismail Saadi fell to William and Mary’s Daniel Pellerito, 6-4, 4-6, [10-4].
DOUBLES
In doubles, partners Harrison Janes and Saadi lost to Ty Switzer and Douglas Yaffa from Virginia in an 8-5 contest.
NEXT UP
Bossem joins Eala in the ITA Atlantic Gold Draw which begins on Saturday, Oct. 22. Bossem takes on VCU’s Maxence Bertimon in the first round, while Eala faces Jefferey von der Schulenberg of Virginia.
Two Nittany Lion doubles pairings take the court on Saturday, Oct. 22 in the Gold Doubles Draw. Bossem and Bhatnagar will play Richmond’s Daniel Kliebhan and William Karpinski, while Morgan and Eala compete against Gray Voelzke and Sam Baumgartner from VCU.
