Men’s Tennis Completes Day 1 at the ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Penn State men’s tennis team opened up play at the ITA Atlantic Regionals at the University of Virginia’s Virginia Tennis Facility on Wednesday afternoon. Three Nittany Lions saw action on day one.  

SINGLES 

Harrison Janes earned Penn State’s first win of the day against Saint Joeseph’s Justus Agbo, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Pranev Nemani followed that up with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ryan Nguyen of Villanova to grab the first win of his collegiate career.  

Also, in the first round of the ITA Atlantic Regionals Bronze Draw, Andrei Paduraru fell to Kaipo Marshall from Duquesne, 6-3, 6-1. Paduraru will play in a consolation match tomorrow at 10:00 am EST against Howard’s Marcel Dawson. 

Moving on to the round of 32, both Janes and Nemani faced off against new opponents. Janes took on Villanova’s Joshua Robinson in a hard-fought match but ended up losing 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Nemani matched up against Davis Wiley from Richmond, where he fell 7-6(5), 6-0.  

DOUBLES 

In doubles, partners Nemani and Paduraru were defeated by Dawson and Justin Cadeau from Howard, 8-7(5). The Nittany Lion duo will take part in a consolation match tomorrow at 3:30 pm EST versus Dustin Ha and Hayden Postin of George Mason.  

NEXT UP 

Charl Morgan, Malik Bhatnagar, Sam Bossem, and Ismail Saadi all start their singles competition on Thursday, October 20 in the ITA Atlantic Regionals Silver Draw.
