SEATTLE, Wash. (Oct. 8, 2022) – Sophomore Maxine Murphy and Elyse Tse each posted a pair of victories to lead Washington State during the second day of play at the 2022 Husky Invitational Saturday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center and Bill Quillian Stadium courts.
The Husky Invitational is played in a hidden dual format, where six singles matches are contested against one school and three doubles matches against another. Saturday, the Cougars began with singles against DePaul and doubles against Oregon.
Murphy had little trouble in singles, handily defeating DePaul’s Hannah Smith 6-2, 6-1. Tse also had a strong showing, defeating Eleanor Nobbs of DePaul, 6-2, 6-2, while WSU’s Yang Lee posted a straight-set, 6-2, 6-3 win over Lenka Antonijevic of DePaul.
In doubles play, WSU captured two of three matches as Murphy and Tse combined for a 6-3 win over Oregon’s Myah Petchey and Jo-Yee Chan, while Lee and Stefaniia Mikhailova completed a 6-1 win over Oregon’s Karin Young and Madisen Olsen.
Play concludes Sunday at the Husky Invitational, with WSU facing his Washington in singles at Noon.
