SAN DIEGO/FORT COLLINS — Colorado women’s tennis team closed out the San Diego Intercollegiate Championships and CSU Jon Messick Invitational Sunday with a win in singles and doubles exhibition.
Elyse Ventura picked up both of the wins today, taking down Matilde Morais of North Texas in straight sets. Ventura battled out a tough first set 7-6(6), winning a tiebreaker after things were tied up at six all. She went on to take the second set and the match 6-3.
Both women then faced off again in doubles with Mila Stanojevic joining Ventura. Colorado was able to pick up the final two games for a 7-5 victory to cap off the weekend.
Colorado was less fortunate in Fort Collins where the team lost three matches. Anya Nelson faced off with a Flight B opponent in Dylan Lolofie of Weber State in consolation play. The two traded 6-3 sets before Lolofie earned the victory with a 10-4 third set tiebreaker. Ellen Puzak fell to Sydney Weinberg of South Dakota 6-2, 6-4, then Nelson and Puzak fell in doubles to a tandem from Utah State 6-3.
Stanojevic also played in singles exhibition today, facing off against Arizona’s Tanvi Narendren. After a tough first set loss with a 7-5 score, Stanojevic swept the second set 6-0. Unfortunately, Narendren earned the victory in the third set tiebreaker 10-7.
The Buffaloes return to action October 12th in Las Vegas at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships.
