Lopez, Chilton and Nguyen Advance to Final Day of ITA Regionals


PRINCETON, N.J. – Jackeline Lopez, Tara Chilton and Mai Nguyen of the Rutgers women’s tennis team shined during the second day of ITA Regionals.  

“We had some tough losses today, but also some great wins,” head coach Hilary Ritchie said. “At this round of regionals, the competition is strong, and we just needed to capitalize in a few situations. Overall, we’ve been competing very well. Tomorrow will be a big opportunity for Tara, Mai and Jackie.” 

Doubles  

The newcomer pair of Chilton/Nguyen found success, earning three wins on their way to the doubles semifinals. The duo earned wins over Binghamton (8-5), Marist (8-5) and Princeton (8-6). They will face Haakansson/Bouzgarrou of St. John’s on Sunday at 9 a.m. 

Singles 

Lopez battled in three sets to stay perfect on the season, defeating St. John’s, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (6). She will go onto the round of 16 on Sunday against Leena Bennetto of Princeton at 10:30 a.m.
