QUEENS, N.Y. – Freshman Annabelle Xu will be competing this week at the 2022 U.S. Open Junior Championships, taking place Sept. 4-11 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
She has advanced to the semifinals of the doubles championship. Xu, partnering with American Alexis Blokhina, won her opening round match 6-3, 7-5 against Melisa Ercan and Amelia Waligora to advance to the Round of 16. They defeated Americans Katherine Hui and Eleana Yu 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 to advance to the semifinals. They were edged 7-5, 6-4 by Germans Carolina Kuhl and Ella Seidel in the semis.
Xu faced 10-seed Alexandra Eala of the Philippines in the first round of singles, falling 6-3, 6-0. Eala went on to win the singles title.
Xu is currently ranked No. 24 in the world junior singles rankings, rising as high as No. 20. She has competed in all four Junior Slams this year, advancing to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
