Russo Joins Women's Tennis Staff as Assistant Coach

MADISON, Wisc. – Former Auburn standout Taylor Russo has joined the Wisconsin women’s tennis staff as an assistant coach, head coach Kelcy McKenna announced Monday.

Russo arrives to Madison after spending six seasons at Auburn, where she competed on the women’s tennis team for five seasons before spending this past year as a graduate assisant for student-athlete enhancement and AuburnYou.

“I am incredibly excited about Taylor joining our program,” stated McKenna. “In addition to being an extremely successful player at Auburn, Taylor’s enthusiasm for tennis is contagious. She is ready to translate her knowledge and experience into coaching and mentoring our student-athletes here in Madison. We know her ability to develop and relate to our young women will help elevate Wisconsin women’s tennis.”

While competing for the Tigers, Russo was a two-time team captain and was recognized as the ITA Souther Region Senior Player of the Year in 2020. Additionally, she was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2017 and garnered spots on the SEC Community Service Team three times. Russo finished her career ranked No. 5 in combined victories (175) and No. 6 in singles wins (85) in program history. She also gained experience with the Auburn men’s tennis program as a digital media intern for two seasons, where she led all social media efforts for the program.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Wisconsin women’s tennis program,” remarked Russo. “Coach McKenna has built an incredible program and I am honored to work alongside her and continue to build on the success and culture she has created. I can’t wait to to be on the other side of collegiate tennis and be a part of developing the next generation of student-athletes.”

Russo also spent time as an instructor at Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn and The Rick Macci Tennis Academy in Boca Raton.

She graduated from Auburn in 2020 with a degree in journalism and went on to obtain her masters in communication in 2022.
