Uslu becomes first All-American in program history

Waco, Texas –Özlem Uslu made history for Virginia Tech women’s tennis on Wednesday, as she became the program’s first All-American.
Uslu advanced to the Round of 16 in this year’s NCAA Singles Championship with a three-set win, 0-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0, over UCLA’s Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer. She bounced back after falling in the first set, to win the second set in the tiebreak and dominantly take the third.
With the win, as one of the final 16 players in the NCAA Championship, she claims All-American status. This marks the first time that a Virginia Tech women’s tennis player has advanced to the Round of 16 and be named an All-American.
She continues to play in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 21 with the opponent and time to be determined.
