MADISON, Wisc – On day two, the Badgers kicked off strong in both doubles and singles play, with compelling performances in the rounds of 64 and 32.
In doubles, while the two other pairings fell to their opponents, Michael Minasyan and Collin Beduhn powered through their Indiana challengers, defeating them with a score of 6-1. They will compete in the semi-finals tomorrow.
The singles competition began today with four badgers in the round of 64. Both Sachiv Kumar and Collin Beduhn fought their way through the first to win their tiebreaks and the first set. Beduhn kept up the momentum in the second set to dominate the rest of the match. Edouard Aubert had a stellar showing of skill in his R64 match. He took down his Buckeye opponent, 6-3, 6-1. Oliver Olsson served up a bagel in his first set, 6-0, and had to fight through his second set to win in the tiebreak, 7-6. Patrik Meszaros, Michael Minasyan, Matthew Fullerton, and Tomas Zlatohlavek all received a bye to the round of 32.
In the round of 32, Patrik Meszaros had a stellar performance against his Hoosier challenger. He defeated him in exciting straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Matthew Fullerton staged a huge win against Northwestern’s Nordby. After fighting through the first set, 7-5, Fullerton conquered his second set, 6-4. Michael Minasyan soared to a victory against Indiana’s Gelletich, dominating the match with an impressive 6-1, 6-1.
Day three of play continues tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. with doubles quarterfinals featuring Michael Minasyan and Collin Beduhn. Singles Round of 16 and quarter-finals will follow.
