Qualifying Quest at Sectionals, Masters

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s team returns to play tomorrow at the ITA Sectional Championships, hosted by Georgia, and on Friday at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, hosted by Berry College.

The Commodores look to add to their list of qualifiers for the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships taking place later this month. Senior Célia-Belle Mohr and junior Bridget Stammel, who captured the Ohio Valley Regional singles championship, have already secured their tickets to Waco. Sophomore Valeria Ray will compete at sectionals as the No. 5 seed in singles while partaking in doubles play as the No. 2 seed alongside Stammel. For the Masters Championships, each Division I conference designated a singles player and doubles team to compete in the event. The SEC selected Belle Mohr and freshman Sophia Webster, who take the court together for the first time since their quarterfinals run at All-Americans.

Both the sectional and masters tournaments will consist of a 32-player draw, with the top six singles players and top three doubles teams earning qualification into the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships. Sectionals are set to begin at 9 a.m. CT in doubles play, with the pair of Stammel and Ray taking on Tulane’s Summer Chandler and Micah Pierce. Ray matches up against Rachel Krzyzak of Ole Miss in singles afterwards. No. 29 ranked Belle Mohr and Webster begin masters play Friday against the winner of Saint Francis and Portland opponents.
