Women’s Tennis Central: Rome Tennis Center Collegiate Classic


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee women’s tennis team members Saray Yli-Piipari, Conley Raidt, Maeve Thornton and Elim Yan are gearing up for the Rome Tennis Center Collegiate Classic in Rome, Ga., from Friday to Sunday.

The draw will feature competitors from Tennessee, Miami, Miami of Ohio and Old Dominion.

Assorted doubles will kick off action on Friday at 10 a.m. ET, followed by assorted singles. On Saturday, play will begin with doubles at 10 a.m. ET, followed by singles. The Sunday slate features singles matches starting at 9 a.m. Draws and times will be finalized by the end of the day on Thursday.

Player Previews:

Conley Raidt – Freshman

Raidt is set to take the court for the Big Orange for her third tournament of the fall. The lefty has registered four wins in singles and eight victories in doubles. She has consistently partnered with Saray Yli-Piipari in doubles and the duo aims to maintain their momentum as they head to Georgia this weekend.

Maeve Thornton – Sophomore

Thornton is coming off of an impressive past weekend at the UT Home Invitational, in which she posted a pair of singles and doubles wins. This fall, Thornton has recorded eight singles triumphs and seven doubles wins. The Knoxville, Tenn. native, has primarily played doubles with Elim Yan, totaling a 5-4 ledger.  

Elim Yan – Freshman

Yan is slated for her fourth fall tournament this weekend. The Adelaine, Australia native, has snagged eight singles wins and five doubles victories throughout the fall season. Yan and Thornton have been dominant in doubles together and look to keep rolling this upcoming weekend.

Saray Yli-Piipari – Freshman

The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native is set for her fourth consecutive fall tournament this weekend. Yli-Piipari has notched seven singles and doubles wins thus far in the fall. The freshman has served as Raidt’s ally in doubles and they will look to continue their success this weekend.
