Gailis and Dudeney to Compete in Regional Semifinals


Atlanta, Ga. – On day three of the ITA Regional Championship Tournament, Florida had two pairs remaining in the doubles category. Representing the Gators in Sunday’s round of 16 was Alicia Dudeney and Rachel Gailis, along with Bente Spee and Talia Neilson-Gatenby.
 
Spee and Neilson-Gatenby received a bye in the round of 64 before defeating Georgia Southern 8-4 in the round of 32. In the round of 16, Spee and Neilson-Gatenby faced Georgia Tech’s Alejandra Cruz and Given Roach. The matchup was a back-and-forth battle resulting in a tiebreaker at seven games all. With the quarterfinals on the line, Georgia Tech ultimately pulled ahead to take the match 8-7(3).
 
Dudeney and Gailis were a hot duo from the start winning 8-1 against Georgia Southern in the round of 32 after receiving a bye in the round of 64. The Gator duo stretched the success into Sunday’s contests defeating Stetson 8-2 in their first matchup of the day. With the 8-2 victory Dudeney and Gailis punched their ticket to the quarterfinals where they faced 2023 SEC champions, Georgia. Digging deep the Florida pair pulled out an 8-5 win over Hayden Mulberry and Sofia Rojas.
 
Dudeney and Gailis are the final Gators left standing in the ITA Regionals Main Draw and will enter the semifinals on a three match win streak.
  
Up Next:
Alicia Dudeney and Rachel Gailis will compete in the ITA Southeast Regional doubles semifinals on Monday, Oct. 21. Florida will play a familiar pair in FIU’s Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Valery Gynina.
 
The semifinal matchup is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the winner to play in the finals on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
