Rodenas Advances to ITA Regional Singles Championship, Qualifies for NCAA Tournament


CARY, N.C. – Duke men’s tennis junior Pedro Rodenas earned two singles wins Sunday and advanced to the championship match at the ITA Regional Championship. By advancing to the finals, he automatically qualifies for the NCAA Singles Tournament next month. 
 
Seeded second in the Carolina Regional, Rodenas defeated Lucas Andrade da Silva (South Carolina) 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals this morning. He faced third-seeded Dhakshineswar Suresh of Wake Forest in the semis and grinded out a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory. 
 
Rodenas will face 12th-seeded Martin Borisiouk (NC State) Monday at 10 a.m.
 
In doubles quarterfinal action, third-seeded Rodenas and teammate Gerard Planelles Ripoll captured an 8-2 victory over Clemson’s Max Damm/Viktor Markov to advance to tomorrow’s semifinal. 
 
Joining them in the semifinals are Blue Devil teammates and 11th-seeded Sam Landau/Theo Winegar. The tandem defeated 13th-seeded Alex Degabriele/Joseph Wayand (8-6) to advance to the semis. 
 
Rodenas/Planelles Ripoll will take on top-seeded Maxwell Smith/Noa Vukadin (Clemson), while Landau/Winegar will face Luca Pow/Luciano Tacchi (Wake Forest). Both matches will be at 12:30 p.m., on Monday.
