Krug Advances to Singles Main Draw


CARY, N.C. – The Duke men’s tennis team opened up the ITA Carolina Regional Championship Thursday at Cary Tennis Park with several strong performances. 
 
Play opened Thursday with qualifying singles matches as Remy Dugardin, Jake Krug, Teddy Truwit and Theo Winegar competed. 
 
14th-seeded Krug captured a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over College of Charleston’s Mattia Bernadi in the round of 64 before adding a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Allen Walker (Furman) in the round of 32 to advance to the singles main draw. 
 

In the consolation qualifying singles bracket, third-seeded Winegar defeated Lucas Coupu-Moison (North Carolina A&T) 6-2, 6-2. 10th-seeded Dugardin defeated Clemson’s Nathan Pitts (6-2, 6-3) while 12th-seeded Truwit earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Daksh Prasad (Presbyterian). 
 
Duke continues play Friday with singles action, followed by the start of doubles play at Cary Tennis Park.
