Tennis Tallies Multiple Wins on Day One of ITA Central Regional Championships


MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Missouri tennis closed out day one with multiple singles wins at the ITA Central Regional Championships, hosted by University of Memphis on Wednesday, Oct 9.

Mizzou opened the ITA Regional with freshman Korina Roso and graduate student Lailaa Bashir competing in the singles qualifying draw. Roso fell to Anet Koskel of Arkansas, while Bashir defeated Ethel Li from North Dakota before dropping a match to Erin McKenzie of Tulsa.

In the B Draw, freshman Sarah Hartel defeated Abigail Thurmer of Arkansas State. Classmate Gian Octa received a bye and will compete on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., against Isabella Bassoon of Tulsa. Octa did pick up a win in an extra match over Miriam Grossman of Memphis.

UP NEXT 

The action on Thursday, Oct 10 will feature singles qualifying draw and B draw rounds of 16, as well as the main draw round of 64. Senior Inah Canete will challenge Pia Kranholdt of Iowa at 1:45 p.m. in the main draw singles. Additionally, doubles will begin at 9 a.m. with Canete and Roso playing Jasmine Adams and Kyoka Kubo of Kansas. Bashir and Octa will take on Alice Amendola and Rebecca Frant from the host school, Memphis.
