Spartan Men’s Tennis Completes Week at M15 Ann Arbor Tournament


 
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men’s tennis has finished up its week in Ann Arbor as the Spartans competed in the M15 Ann Arbor tournament.
 
The action is MSU’s final preparation for the ITA Team Regionals that Michigan State is hosting on Oct 10-14. 
 
Senior Josh Portnoy started his week taking down Baratau, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round of qualifying. With a win against unattached Haviland 6-3, 5-7 [10-7], Portnoy had earned his way into the Main Draw. In the first round of the Main Draw, Portnoy went up against unattached Dickerson falling 0-6, 2-6 ending his week in Ann Arbor. 
 
Coming off his time at the ITA All-American tournament, sophomore Taym Alazmeh was looking forward to continuing his fall season. He was the only Spartan to compete in single and double matches in this tournament. In the first round of singles matches, he took on unattached Thomson falling 3-6, 6–7. Paired up with Martin in doubles, they fell to unattached Vance/Nefve 7-6, 6-7 [7-10]. 
 
Since this was his first tournament as a Spartan, freshman Danial Rakhmatullayev was looking to start off his career in a good way. In the first round Rakhmatullayev took on unattached Dickerson. In that match, Rakhmatullayev fell 1-6, 3-6 in his first match of the season. 
 
The Spartans are looking forward to competing for their next tournament and finishing out the fall season. Following this tournament, the Spartans are back in action Oct 10-14 for ITA Regionals, which will be held in East Lansing at MSU’s Indoor Tennis Center.
