TULSA, OKLA. – South Carolina men’s tennis senior Casey Hoole dropped a tough three-set match in the second round of the ITA All-American Championships Thursday.
No. 45 Hoole stormed out to a quick first-set win for the second time in as many matches to take a 6-2 lead on NC State’s Braden Shick, who is ranked No. 33. The second set also went much like Hoole’s first-round win over No. 9 Jack Anthrop, staying on serve until deep in the set. Shick managed to score the late service break for the 7-5 win to level the match at a set apiece. The third tipped in Shick’s favor early and he held on for the 6-3 victory to move on in the main draw.
Hoole moves to the consolation bracket with the loss where he will have a chance to score another top-10 win as he faces No. 7 Gavin Young of Michigan.
Complete draws, schedules and results for the ITA All-American Championships will be posted on the ITA Tournament Page. Cracked Racquets will stream Main Draw matches on the ITA YouTube channel, and matches will also stream on TrackTennis.
Under the new format for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, players and doubles teams in the ITA All-American Championships can qualify right into the NCAA Championships bracket. From singles, eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists will punch their ticket directly into the NCAA Singles Championships. The four main draw doubles semifinalists will join them in the NCAA Doubles Championships.
