Sedlackova Named ITA Southern Regional Rookie of the Year


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Alabama’s Petra Sedlackova was named the ITA Rookie of the Year for the Southern Region, the organization announced on Monday.

Sedlackova put together an impressive rookie campaign, recording a team-leading 23 singles wins and 18 doubles victories. She advanced to the NCAA Singles Championships before finishing the year ranked 76th in singles and 51st in doubles. Her performance on the court earned her Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

Sedlackova is the fourth player in program history to earn the regional honor. She joins Andie Daniell (2016), Mary Ann Macfarlane Daines (2011) and Alexa Guarachi (2010) as ITA Southern Regional Rookie of the Year honorees.

  • Advanced to the NCAA Singles Championships
  • Finished the year ranked 76th in singles and 51st in doubles in the Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings
  • Put together a team-leading 23 singles victories, which included going 16-3 in dual competition and 6-2 in SEC play
  • Recorded 18 doubles victories, posting 11 wins in dual matches and six wins in conference action  
  • Opened her career by advancing to the semifinals in the singles draw and quarterfinals in the doubles draw at the ITA Southern Regional Championships
  • Won 12 of her first 14 dual matches as UA’s No. 3 singles player
  • Climbed in the Tide’s lineup to No. 1 doubles with partner Anna Parkhomenko
