CARY, N.C. – Catherine Aulia and Elza Tomase of the Tennessee women’s tennis team each won their respective singles matches, but came up short in doubles play on Wednesday at the 2024 Women’s ITA All-American Championships at Cary Tennis Park.
No. 62 Tomase kicked off the morning by competing in the main singles draw in the Round of 64. The senior delivered a commanding win over Alabama’s No. 46, Petra Sedlackova, 6-1, 6-2. The victory marked Tomase’s second ranked win of the young season. The Liepaja, Latvia, native moved on to the Round of 32 and is set to face No. 3 Celia-Belle Mohr from Vanderbilt.
No. 81 Aulia followed Tomase, securing a win in the main singles draw in the Round of 64. The junior battled hard against Arkansas’s No. 18, Carolina Gomez Alonso, clinching the match 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1. The victory marked Aulia’s second straight singles tiebreak win and the highest-ranked victory of her career. She moves forward to the Round of 32, meeting Duke’s No. 38 Shavit Kimichi.
In doubles, No. 23 Aulia/Tomase took North Carolina’s No. 34 Amelia Bissett and Maria Juliana Parra Romero to a third set, but ultimately fell short. The Lady Vols dropped a 6-7(6), 6-0, 7-10 defeat, with their doubles run concluding.
