Virginia Women's Tennis | Olympic Tennis Draws Released

PARIS– The draws have been announced for the Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis Event following the draw ceremony at Roland Garros on Thursday, July 25.

Danielle Collins is the No. 8 seed in the singles draw and the No. 4 seed in doubles. Emma Navarro is the No. 11 seed in the singles draw. Both will be making their Olympic debuts as members of Team USA.

Collins will open play by facing Laura Siegemund of Germany in the opening round. Siegemund is ranked No. 64 in the world. The two faced one another in February in Doha with Collins winning 6-4, 6-4.

Navarro will face Julia Grabher of Austria. Grabher is currently ranked No. 312, but was ranked No. 54 a year ago. This is their first-ever meeting.

Collins is partnering with Arizona State alum Desirae Krawczyk in doubles. Krawczyk is ranked No. 12 in the world doubles rankings after making the semifinals at both the French Open and Wimbledon this year. She is a four-time major champion in mixed doubles.  The duo will face Despina Papamichall and Maria Sakkari of Greece in the first round.

First round singles and doubles matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28. Order of play for Saturday’s matches will be released on Friday.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to Aug. 11 in Paris, with the tennis competition staged from July 27 to Aug. 4 at Roland Garros. The U.S. has won 24 Olympic medals (14 gold) in men’s and women’s tennis since it returned as a full medal sport in 1988–more than any other nation.

Tennis was part of the Olympic program from the first modern Olympiad in 1896 until 1924.  After a 64-year hiatus, tennis returned to the official Olympic program in 1988, becoming the first sport to feature professional athletes.
