Women's Tennis Earns Top Mountain Region Rankings


TEMPE, Ariz. – The ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women’s Regional Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point were released for the 2022 spring season. The Regional Rankings include the Top-10 Teams, Top-20 Singles, and Top-10 Doubles for every region. 
 
The Utes earned the top ranking in the mountain region. As a team, the Utes won 15 matches this season, including its first win over USC. Utah started the season 9-0, the best starter in program history.
 
The Utes placed three singles players in the top-20 and two doubles teams in the top-10 for the Mountain Region. Utah had Linda Huang, Anastasia Goncharova, and Lindsay Hung earn top-20 rankings in singles play. Madison Tattini and Hung and Goncharova and Emily Dush made top-10 rankings in doubles. 
 
Huang earned the top ranking in the region. Huang ended her first season with the Utes with the second-most singles wins (13). As a graduate transfer, Huang stepped into the top singles spots for Utah. She earned three ranked singles wins this season. Her biggest win as a Ute came on March 4 when she defeated fifth-ranked Eryn Cayetano. The win over Cayetano is the third-highest opponent beaten by a Ute in program history. Huang was ranked as high as the 97th best singles player in the nation by the ITA.
 
Goncharova earned the eighth ranking in the region. In her second season with the Utes, she led the team in singles wins with 15. On February 11, against Washington State, Goncharova clinched a 4-3 win for the Utes as she won a three-set match against Elysa Tese. Goncharova came away with a 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-3 victory, which moved the Utes to 8-0 on the season.
 
Hung earned the 19th ranking in the region’s single rankings. Hung finished the season with the team’s second-most singles wins (13). She earned 12 victories in No. 3 singles and a victory in No. 2 singles. Hung earned a win that helped the Utes defeat Washington State, 4-3, on February 11.  
 
The doubles teams of Tattini and Huang earned the fourth ranking, while Goncharova and Dush were ranked fifth in the top-10 rankings. 
 
Tattini and Huang, the top doubles team for the Utes, claimed 14 doubles wins this season. The duo came away with a 6-4 win over then-No. 39 Haley Giavara and Valentina Ivanov in the Pac-12 tournament.
