KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men’s tennis senior Johannus Monday and junior Shunsuke Mitsui collected Intercollegiate Tennis Association honors Wednesday, with Monday being named the ITA Senior Player of the Year and Mitsui picking up an ITA Player to Watch accolade within the Ohio Valley Region.
 
The ITA Senior Player of the Year award honors the senior student-athlete who had the best season among all student-athletes in his class. The ITA Player to Watch accolade recognizes a student-athlete who is primed to make a big jump in the upcoming season. 
 
Monday recorded a 25-3 singles record during the dual season and finished the year ranked second nationally. He also garnered ITA Singles All-America status for the fourth consecutive campaign. The senior posted a 24-3 (10-0 SEC) mark at the No. 1 singles spot, including a 19-2 record when facing ranked opponents. His impressive performance during this year’s campaign earned him his second consecutive SEC Player of the Year honor along with a doubles All-America accolade for the second time in his career. 
 
The Hull, England, native posted a 28-3 overall singles record on the season (.903), which is tied for the second-best winning percentage in a season in program history. His 105-25 record (.808) for his career ranks seventh in the UT record book for winning percentage. He also earned the 100th singles win of his illustrious career earlier in the season to bring his career total to 105 victories, a mark that ranks 12th in school history.
 
Mitsui rounded out his junior campaign with an impressive run to the NCAA Singles Round of 16, earning him ITA Singles All-America honors. He went 23-6 in dual singles matches on the year while playing primarily at the No. 2 singles spot, including nine ranked victories and a 10-2 record in SEC play.
 
The Shizuoka, Japan, native rose to 16th nationally on Feb. 7, a ranking that was his highest to date. This came after an impressive career-high run of 12 straight singles victories that started in September and went through the first few weeks of dual singles play. He landed at 30th overall in the ITA’s end-of-year singles rankings, positioning him to make a statement in his senior year. Mitsui currently sits at 92-25 (.786) overall in singles for his career.
 
This marks the second time that Mitsui and Monday have brought home an ITA Regional Award. In their respective first years on Rocky Top, they earned ITA Ohio Valley Region…
