#8 Wolfpack Takes Care of Virginia Tech on Senior Day

RALEIGH – Eighth-ranked NC State women’s tennis (20-4, 10-3 ACC) tallied its 10th conference win in its regular-season finale with a 7-0 sweep over Virginia Tech (10-13, 1-12 ACC).

For the first time ever, Nell Miller and Alana Smith paired up for doubles action on court one in honor of senior day together. Unfortunately, victories were secured on the other two courts to halt the seniors from grabbing a win together.

The two freshmen, Diana Shnaider and Anna Zyryanova took control of court three with a commanding 6-1 win. Despite dropping their first game, Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli battled for the remainder to win 6-2 and clinch the doubles point.

No. 71 Rencheli was already leading 6-1, 1-0 when her opponent decided to retire the match, officially handing the win over.

Gina Dittmann cruised through her match yet again on court five to extend the lead for her team 3-0 from her 6-1, 6-0 near shutout.

No. 15 Shnaider was the one to clinch the win for the Wolfpack when she defeated No. 54 Ozlem Uslu 6-0, 6-3.

After battling through hardship in her match, Abrams was able to come out on top in two straight sets, finishing 6-4, 6-4.

No. 13 Smith got rid of some jitters in first her set to come back in the second set and super tiebreaker third to secure her triumph (4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7)) . Alana’s win was her 100th career singles win, placing her as only the second player in program history to achieve 100 career wins in both doubles and singles.

Miller closed out the day for the team as she battled back on court six to also pick up a win for her senior day (7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7)).
