#31 Spaka/Fontenel Eliminated in NCAA Doubles Round of 32


STILLWATER, Okla.— No. 31 ranked Patricija Spaka/Chelsea Fontenel were bested by No. 4 Alina Shcherbinina/Dana Guzman (Oklahoma), 6-0, 6-1, in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Doubles Championships on Tuesday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
The loss officially ends the 2024 campaign for the Sun Devils after a 36th consecutive run to the NCAA Tournament and the first appearance of the duo of Spaka/Fontenel as it marked the third time in as many years that Spaka has made an appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships.

After a first set in which the Sooners won 6-0, Spaka and Fontenel won the first game of the second set but Shcherbinina/Guzman went on to win the match in straight sets with a 6-1 victory in the second set.
 
Throughout the spring season, the duo of Spaka/Fontenel led the Sun Devils with 11 doubles wins throughout the season playing on Court 1. The duo received their first ranking back in March and have been ranked as high as No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings.
