GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s Emma Navarro has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year and highlights the 2022 All-ACC Teams.
The honors, announced Thursday, were determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
NC State’s Priska Nugroho was named the Freshman of the Year, and Duke’s Jamie Ashworth was selected as the Coach of the Year.
An All-American in singles and doubles, Navarro compiled a 26-2 singles record and 20-7 doubles mark. The Charleston, South Carolina native finished the season ranked No. 2 in the final ITA singles rankings and No. 4 in doubles. Navarro is a finalist for the 2022 Honda Sport Award for the second consecutive season.
Nugroho, a native of Jakarta, Indonesia, was named ACC Freshman of the Week five times during the 2022 season, which was more than any other player in the league. She joined the Wolfpack in January and posted a 23-8 mark in singles, including a 10-3 mark in conference play. She was among the ITA rankings every week beginning April 6 and finished No. 89 overall.
Duke’s Ashworth earned his fourth ACC Coach of the Year honor after leading the Blue Devils to their 18th overall ACC Championship and first since 2012. Duke advanced to the NCAA semifinals and finished the season with a 23-4 record and a No. 4 final ranking by the ITA.
