#10 Vols Fall to #3 TCU, 4-1


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 10th-ranked Tennessee men’s tennis team fell in a 4-1 decision to No. 3 TCU Thursday evening in Goodfriend Tennis Center.
 
Tennessee (6-3) narrowly dropped the doubles point, splitting courts one and three before TCU’s Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley clinched with a 7-5 win over Emile Hudd and Angel Diaz of Tennessee at No. 2 doubles, 7-5.
 
Tennessee’s win on the doubles courts came from Johannus Monday and Pat Harper on court one, 6-3 over TCU’s fourth-ranked pairing of Lui Maxted and Sander Jong.
 
TCU (6-0) took five first sets in singles play, earning straight-set wins on courts six, two and five. Monday’s 7-6(5), 6-4 victory over No. 8 Jake Fearnley of TCU made the score 3-1 in favor of the Horned Frogs.
 
The Vols nearly shifted the match’s momentum late, with #81 Hudd up a break early in his third set on court four with TCU’s Maxted and #59 Shunsuke Mitsui knotted at 5-all in set two on court three against #28 Luc Fomba. The Frogs clinched the match on court five with Tomas Jirousek battling past Tennessee’s Martim Prata, 6-2, 7-5.
