WTEN Wins 4-0, Advances To Super Regional Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. —  The UNC women’s tennis team (31-1), defeated the Old Dominion Monarchs (19-5) 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Chewning Tennis Center.

In doubles play, the No. 3 tandem of Reese Brantmeier and Reilly Tran quickly gave UNC the doubles point advantage after winning 6-2. The No. 2 duo of Elizabeth Scotty and Carson Tanguilig clinched the doubles point, giving the Tar Heels the early 1-0 lead entering singles play. 

In singles action, top-ranked Fiona Crawley gave the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead after she won 6-1, 6-3 on court two. Anika Yarlagadda won 6-1, 6-3 on court No. 6 to extend the Tar Heel lead to 3-0 and bring the UNC magic number to one. A few moments later, Reilly Tran clinched the victory for the Tar Heels on court No. 5 winning 6-4, 6-1.

Reese Brantmeier, Abbey Forbes and Carson Tanguilig’s matches all went unfinished.

North Carolina will host the Super Regional round next Friday and Saturday with an opportunity to return to the eight-team NCAA Championships for the 13th straight season.

  6. No. 38 Anika Yarlagadda (UNC) def. Allison Isaacs (ODU) 6-1, 6-2
