Women’s Tennis Signs Croatian Junior Champion Svetac

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women’s Tennis continues to reel in some of the top international junior talent, as the program has announced the signing of Sara Svetac of Split, Croatia.

Svetac, who was ranked as high as No. 135 in the ITF Junior World rankings, has captured five ITF junior single titles and a trio of junior doubles titles.

She has represented Croatia at the European Championships in the under-14, 16 and 18 tournaments and played for the National Team at the Summer Cup in under-14 and 18. She was a member of the Croatian team at the under-16 Winter Cup, as well.

Svetac currently owns a Universal Tennis Rating of 10.22.

“We are thrilled that Sara has chosen to become a Sun Devil and join our program!” head coach Sheila McInerney and associate head coach Matt Langley said. “Sara comes to Tempe with a ton of international experience, having won multiple ITF junior titles in both singles and doubles and having represented the Croatian National Team on numerous occasions.

“She is an extremely talented player that strikes the ball cleanly off both sides of her body and moves well. We believe that she has a tremendous upside, and her best tennis is still ahead of her. Her positivity and enthusiasm for the game will make Sara a great teammate, extremely valuable to our program, and help us continue to reach the high standards we have at ASU.”

Svetac will arrive in Tempe this fall, joined alongside top Lithuanian junior Emilija Tverijonaite, who signed with the team in November 2022.
