WOMEN’S TENNIS CENTRAL: No. 18 Tennessee vs. Wake Forest and Bellarmine


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 18 Tennessee women’s tennis team is set to host Wake Forest and Bellarmine on Sunday at Goodfriend Tennis Center. First serve against the Demon Deacons is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by the match against the Knights at 6:30 p.m ET.

Tennessee (2-0) is coming off an impressive past weekend, notching two 7-0 victories over Furman and Chattanooga. The squad logged a total of 16 wins throughout the two matches. Senior Esther Adeshina posted three 6-0 shutout singles sets on the day, while graduate student Alana Wolfberg and senior Sofia Cabezas earned their first wins on Rocky Top.

Lady Vols in the Rankings:

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Wednesday morning that the squad is No. 18 in the first poll of 2024. Additionally, Southeastern Conference preseason poll selected the team to finish in a tie for sixth place, alongside South Carolina. The following members of the team were ranked in the final fall ITA individual poll posted on Nov. 15, 2023:

Sofia Cabezas No. 92

Eleonora Molinaro No. 100

Elza Tomase No. 115

Scouting the Demon Deacons:

Tennessee leads the all-time series against Wake Forest, 18-16. The Lady Volunteers have won their last five meetings, each in the Alison Ojeda era. The last time the two squads met was in 2023 during the NCAA Super Regional on Rocky Top when the Lady Vols earned a 4-1 victory. No. 42 Cassie Wooten is the lone ranked player the Decs will bring to Knoxville.

Scouting the Knights:

The Lady Vols are a perfect 3-0 vs. Bellarmine, with their last victory coming as a 4-0 sweep in Knoxville. Their first-ever meeting came against the Knights in 2022 when Tennessee posted another 4-0 sweep against the squad. The Big Orange has swept Bellarmine every time the two teams have met.
