KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 18 Tennessee women’s tennis team kicks off the spring dual season by heading to Austin, Texas, to compete at the Texas Invitational from Friday through Sunday. The tournament will feature competitors from Tennessee, No. 7 Texas, Wisconsin and San Diego.
The Lady Vols are aiming to build momentum early in their 2025 spring season, following a strong fall campaign. Senior Elza Tomase and junior Catherine Aulia both secured spots in the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships. The duo advanced to the singles Round of 32, marking only the second time in program history that Tennessee had two players compete in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship in the same year.
Tennessee begins the spring campaign with five ranked singles players and a ranked doubles team. The squad returned three veterans in Tomase, Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso. Maeve Thornton and Vanesa Suarez, who transferred from other programs, will make their debuts. The team additionally welcomed five freshmen who will all make an impact; Conley Raidt, Natalia Perez, Saray Yli-Piipari, Francesca Mattioli and Elim Yan.
The Texas Invitational is slated to begin on Friday at 9 a.m. ET, as the Lady Vols square off against Texas in doubles, followed by singles versus San Diego at 10 a.m. ET. On Saturday, Tennessee will take on Wisconsin in doubles at 9 a.m. ET, followed by facing Texas in singles at 10 a.m. ET. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, with matches starting at 9 a.m. ET. The first match will feature doubles play between San Diego. Following that, the team will face Wisconsin in doubles at 10 a.m. ET
The tournament is set up in a hidden dual format, therefore there will be no winner. No streaming or live stats will be available for the weekend.
