GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Virginia Men’s Tennis team is seeking its sixth National Championship after upsetting Texas (26-4), 4-1, on Saturday in the semifinals of the 2023 NCAA Team Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Fifth-seeded Virginia will face third-seeded Ohio State in the Championsip on Sunday, May 21 at noon ET. The match will be broadcast on NCAA.com. Virginia is on a 21-match winning streak and has now advanced to eight of the last 12 NCAA finals.

The Cavaliers (29-4) took down the top-seeded Longhorns after securing the doubles point with a pair of victories on Courts 2 and 3.

All but two players for Virginia dropped their first set to Texas, as Chris Rodesch and Måns Dahlberg won their first sets.

The Longhorns tied the match at 1-1 with a win on Court 3 before Dahlberg gave the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead, defeating Nevin Arimilli 6-3, 6-2, on Court 6. Ryan Goetz brought the Cavaliers within one point, 3-1, with a win on Court 4 over Siem Woldeah 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Alexander Kiefer secured the Cavaliers’ spot in the Championship with a three-set victory on Court 5 over Cleeve Harper. After falling 4-6 in the first set, Kiefer won the second, 6-1, to force a third and deciding set. With the third set tied at 6-6, Kiefer pulled out a 7-5 tiebreaker victory to clinch the match.
