UO Guts Out 4-1 Win at Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – With all six singles matches going to three sets, No. 53 Oregon gutted out a 4-1 victory at No. 43 Arizona to begin its Pac-12 schedule Friday at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
 
Two of UO’s three singles victories came after dropping the first set. Sophie Luescher, playing at No. 1, and Jo-Yee Chan, on court six, each recovered from opening-set setbacks to clinch crucial singles points for the Ducks. Uxia Martinez Moral earned the fourth and final point after a second-set tiebreaker sent the No. 4 singles match to a decisive set.
 
“I love the fight in this team,” said head coach Courtney Nagle. “Today was a battle on every court in singles and doubles. To get a road win in a tough environment like this is something to be proud of. We did a great job on every court of making it a battle, regardless of our individual situations. We were resilient and gritty all around. We are looking forward to a good recovery and another tough battle on Sunday (at Arizona State).”
 
The Ducks (8-3, 1-0) began the day by claiming a hotly contested doubles point. After splitting on courts two and three, Luescher and Martinez Moral grinded out a 6-4 victory at No. 1 to hand UO a 1-0 lead.
