Treiber Earns Big Ten Women's Tennis Player of the Week Honors

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Junior Kasia Treiber was named Big Ten Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after securing two singles wins last weekend, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Treiber posted a 2-0 weekend at No. 3 singles in the Fighting Illini’s wins over Brown and Marshall at Atkins Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Treiber’s first triumph of the weekend came in two sets against Brown’s Gabby Soliman, 6-0, 6-4. The following day, she picked up her second victory of the Illini’s weekend slate with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Marshall’s Doroteja Joksovic.

An accountancy major at Illinois, Treiber’s two-win weekend helped the Orange and Blue move into the ITA rankings at No. 24, the program’s highest spot since the 2019 campaign.

This marks the first time in her career that Treiber has earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, while she is the first Illini to earn Player of the Week status this season. Kate Duong was the most recent weekly conference honoree when she earned Big Ten Player of the Week accolades on April 19, 2022.

With Treiber on a team-high four-match winning streak, the No. 24 Fighting Illini (7-2) will be back in action at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday.
