Tennis Falls To Colorado On The Road, 4-1

BOULDER, Colo. — The University of Missouri tennis team falls 4-1 to the University of Colorado on Sunday, Feb. 11 — the team’s last road match before opening SEC play. The Tigers drop to 2-8 on the season and the Buffs advance to 6-1 for the 2024 campaign.

Beginning the day with doubles action, the No. 1 duo of seniors Mae Canete and Gabriela Martinez dominated against the Buffs in an early 6-1 win in the one spot. Mizzou fought hard but could not pull away with the doubles point and walked into singles competition down, 1-0.

Sitting in the No. 1 singles spot, Canete battled in a three-set match against Aya El Sayed and secured a singles point for the Tigers, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Martinez also found herself in a three-set contest in the No. 2 spot, but the senior could not collect the win against Elys Ventura, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Despite the early momentum gained by the doubles win, Missouri came up short 4-1 to Colorado.

HEAD COACH BIANCA TURATI

“Very fast conditions here in Boulder today. Good performances at one doubles and one singles. The whole group competed hard. But we need to keep working on intensity and managing the tight moments of matches. We have a couple of weeks to practice and prepare for SEC play. We just need to keep working with the right attitude and focus on improving every day.”
