Tar Heels Meet Wolfpack In National Championship Match

Who: No. 1 North Carolina (33-1) vs. No. 4 NC State (28-4)

Where: USTA Campus – Orlando, Fla.

When: Saturday, May 20, 2023 – 5:30 p.m. 

The Lead: After a 4-0 win over No. 3 Georgia yesterday, the North Carolina Tar Heels will face ACC foe and fourth-ranked NC State in the NCAA National Championship match at the United States Tennis Association’s national campus in Orlando, Florida at 5:30 p.m.


  • A win would give North Carolina its first national championship.

  • NC State defeated UNC for its lone loss of the season in the ACC Championship match.

  • Against Georgia, Fiona Crawley won her 120th singles match as a Tar Heel. She is now in sole possession of sixth place in all-time singles victories at UNC. 

From the Notes: The last time UNC was in the national championship match was in 2014. The Tar Heels fell 3-4 to the UCLA Bruins.


Switching Sides:

  •  NC State defeated Stanford 4-0 in the NCAA Semifinals.

  •  The NC State women are also in pursuit of their first national championship.

  •  The Wolfpack lineup is made up of two ranked doubles pairs and four ranked players in singles.
