Rodenas Earns All-America Status with NCAA Singles Championship Win

ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Pedro Rodenas continued his impressive opening season with his second victory at the 2023 NCAA Singles Championship on Tuesday at USTA National Campus.

With the win, Rodenas becomes an All-American and advances to Wednesday’s round of 16.

The Madrid, Spain, native posted his highest ranked win on Tuesday when he bested [9-16] seed and No. 14 ranked Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame in three sets. Rodenas recorded a 6-4 victory in the opening frame but dropped the second 6-1. He rebounded for a 6-4 win in the third set to tally his ninth ranked victory of the season.

The rookie now has 33 overall singles wins during his first season, which places him tied with Geoff Grant and Chris Mengel for fourth all-time on the freshman wins chart.

Rodenas will next meet the No. 1 overall seed and the top-ranked player in the country Eliot Spizzirri of Texas on Wednesday for a noon match.

Due to weather on Tuesday, the doubles competition was postponed until Wednesday. Rodenas will team up with senior Garrett Johns to battle No. 4 Trent Bryde and Ethan Quinn of Georgia in their opening round match. Time for the contest will not start before 3:30 p.m.
