On the Court: Wisconsin set to face William & Mary

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 33 Wisconsin women’s tennis team will compete in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against William & Mary on Friday, May 2, at 2:00 p.m. (CT).

If the team advances, they will face either Navy or No. 4 UNC in the regional finals on Saturday, May 3, at 5:00 p.m. (CT). The matches will be played on the University of North Carolina campus.

Here are five things to know:

1. SCOUTING THE TRIBE: W&M claimed the title of 2024 CAA Champions, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

W&M’s 26 NCAA Tournament appearances rank 18th nationally and are second-most for a program outside the Power Five Conferences.

Although William & Mary is not ranked in the ITA team, singles, or doubles polls, they enter the NCAA Championship on a school-record-tying win streak of 14 in a row.

This matchup will be the ninth overall and second NCAA Tournament meeting between the two teams. In the 2005 NCAA Regional in Clemson, S.C., the Tribe knocked off the No. 34-ranked Badgers, 4-1.

2. BADGERS IN THE NCAA TOURNEY: This will be UW’s 10th overall, second consecutive, appearance in the NCAA team tournament.

In 2023, the Badgers took down No. 41 LSU, 4-1, in the first round before dropping to No. 12 Iowa State in the regional finals.

3. B1G HONORS: The Big Ten All-Conference women’s tennis team and individual honors were announced by the league on April 24.

Sophomore Maria Sholokhova was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten Team, while freshman Ellison Reynoldson was named a Sportsmanship Award honoree.
