On the Court: No. 25 women's tennis heads to DeKalb


MADISON, Wis. – The No. 25 women’s tennis team is headed to DeKalb, Ill., to face James Madison and Northern Illinois in dual matches on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

1. SCOUTING THE DUKES:  The Dukes are coming off its first dual of the season against No. 12 Virginia. The team dropped the decision, 0-7, to the Cavaliers.

JMU’s roster contains redshirt senior Cate Broerman, who saw a No. 26 singles ranking in the 2023 fall season. Before JMU, Broerman competed at Gonzaga where she won 68 career matches, ranking fourth in Gonzaga history. 

 2. SCOUTING THE HUSKIES:  The Badgers will face NIU for the second year in a row. The last time the two teams hit the court, Wisconsin came out on top, 5-2.

The Huskies return its entire lineup, including Diana Lukyanova. The senior has 69 career singles and 49 doubles wins at Northern Illinois. 

 3. THE LAST SERVE: Wisconsin traveled to Columbia, S.C. for the Carolina Kickoff, facing No. 11 Auburn, Wake Forest, and South Carolina. 

UW won 14 singles matches and four doubles matches. The most notable win came from No. 67 Maria Sholokohva. She defeated No. 4 Sarah Hammer from South Carolina (6-4, 6-4).
