EVANSTON, Ill. (January 25, 2023) – Following three straight contests at home, Northwestern women’s tennis will hit the road for the first time in 2023 when it visits Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Kickoff Weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 21 Vanderbilt last Sunday inside the Combe Tennis Center. Justine Leong and Christina Hand improved to a spotless 3-0 on the young season in doubles, cruising to a 6-3 decision.
In singles action, Briana Crowley and Kiley Rabjohns put points on the board for the ‘Cats, each picking up wins in straight sets. Crowley dispatched Amy Stevens (6-4, 6-4), while Rabjohns turned away Dasha Kourkina (6-3, 6-3). Both members of the duo sport 3-0 records.

Northwestern will open action at the Virginia Regional of ITA Kickoff Weekend at 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday when it battles South Carolina. No. 8 Virginia and Washington State will open the day’s action at 2 p.m. (CT).
South Carolina enters Friday’s matchup at 0-1 following a 6-1 setback to No. 3 North Carolina State this past Saturday. Virginia, the regional host, holds an unblemished 2-0 record following comfortable wins over Richmond, 7-0, and James Madison, 6-1, while Washington State, also at 2-0, is coming off a narrow 4-3 triumph over rival Gonzaga.
The winners of Friday’s semifinals will battle it out on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (CT) for a berth at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, set for February 10-13 in Seattle, Wash.
