No. 57 Men’s Tennis Preps for Road Match Against FGCU


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team (12-3) take on the FGCU Eagles (6-6) at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. on Saturday, March 11 at 3 p.m. EST in their fifth straight road match.

LAST TIME OUT 

Penn State is coming off a big weekend, where they earned a 2-0 record on the road.  

The Nittany Lions took on Bryant on neutral ground and collected a 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs. Earning the doubles point, Penn State won three straight courts to roll past Bryant. Miko Eala and Stefan Simeunovic improved to 7-0 in doubles and Sam Bossem grabbed another clinch.  

Facing off against the Dartmouth Big Green on Sunday, the Nittany Lions edged out a 4-3 win. Penn State collected their 13th doubles point, as Eala and Simeunovic grabbed another victory for an 8-0 record. Simeunovic completed the comeback on court five 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 over Hikaru Takeda to clinch the match for the Nittany Lions.  

SCOUTING THE EAGLES 

FGCU is 6-6 coming into this weekend matchup against Penn State. They are on a three-match losing streak, taking losses from South Alabama 5-2, Louisiana 4-3, and Tulane 6-1. The Eagles boast the No. 77-ranked doubles pairing in the nation in Max Damm and Randy Wilson. 

The Eagles are 0-2 all-time against the Nittany Lions. Penn State’s most recent win came in 2019 in a 7-0 sweep in Orlando, Fla. They look to continue the winning streak in Florida on Saturday.
