No. 21 Alabama Faces Kennesaw State, Tennessee Tech in Weekend Doubleheader


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– After a dominant performance at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, the No. 21 Alabama men’s tennis team (3-2) returns home to host Kennesaw State (2-0) and Tennessee Tech (0-3) in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Tide will take on the Owls at 11 a.m. CT before turning around and hosting the Golden Eagles at 4 p.m.

  • After an impressive showing at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, UA was tabbed as the No. 21-ranked team nationally by the ITA
  • The national ranking comes after the Tide defeated Nebraska in the semifinals of the ITA regional tournament, before downing the then-No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats in the finals
  • The victory earned Alabama a spot at the ITA Indoor Championships for the first time since 2010
  • The Tide enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak
  • It is the first meeting between the Crimson Tide and Kennesaw State
  • It will be the eighth meeting between Alabama and Tennessee Tech with UA winning the last seven meetings
  • The Crimson Tide continues to have three singles players ranked nationally with Filip Planinsek ranked 35th, Enzo Aguiard ranked 51st and Matias Ponce De Leon ranked 76th
  • Planinsek and Andrii Zimnokh rank 25th nationally as a doubles pair
