Murray Names Players He’d Coach

Coaching runs deep in the Murray family tree.

Andy Murray’s mom, Judy Murray, was his original coach. Judy Murray taught tennis to both of her sons, Andy and Jamie Murray, who grew up to attain the world No. 1 ranking in singles and doubles respectively.

So if Andy Murray himself took up coaching when his playing days are done, who would he like to coach?

The Infosys Hall of Fame Open put that question to Murray in Newport where he’s playing this week.

The two-time Olympic gold-medal champion named four players he’d like to coach.

“Female player would be Emma [Raducanu] and male players would be between [Carlos] Alcaraz, [Stefanos] Tsitsipas and Jack Draper,” Murray says in the video above. “They work hard, they seem like they love the sport.

“Alcaraz and Tsitsipas haven’t won a slam yet. They’re obviously still very young and I think they have the potential to do it.”

Murray has previously praised Raducanu as both a talented player and a champion who can be an ambassador for British sport.

“I’ve spent a little bit of time around her on the practice court, but more so in the same building, training close to each other, and watching what she’s doing, and she’s obviously really, really good,” Murray said. “But what she did in New York was very special, a huge boost for British tennis and gives hopefully the governing bodies an opportunity to capitalize on that and get more and more kids involved in the sport.

“It’s great what she did and a huge opportunity for British tennis now.”
