Murphy Cassone Kicks of NCAA Singles Championship Monday


TEMPE, Ariz.The draws were released Sunday for the 2023 NCAA Men’s Singles Championships which includes Sophomore Murphy Cassone at the event, he’ll take on Inaki Montes de la Torre of Virginia who clinched the championship point for the Cavaliers on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. MST. Coverage can be seen on playsight featuring all the tournament action from doubles to singles play. 

It’s the second time in Cassone’s career that he’s been selected to represent Arizona State in the singles tournament, following his freshman-year record of 15-5 and followed it up by going 17-6 in the Spring to earn first-team Pac-12 honors for the second consecutive year. He was 8-2 in Pac-12 play this season.

The 2022 ITA Rookie of the Year was absolutely dominant in the final weeks of the regular season. Cassone was a perfect 6-0 in April and never lost more than two matches back-to-back during the year. Of his 17 wins, just five went to a third set.



All matches are best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches.

Play begins May 22 at 10 a.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
