Men's Tennis Kicks Off ASU Spring Break Tournament Friday


TEMPE, Ariz. – Michigan State men’s tennis (5-5, 0-0 B1G) heads to Tempe, Arizona this weekend to compete in the Arizona State Spring Break Tournament on Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12 at the Kiawanis Tennis Center.

This weekend marks the Spartans’ second-straight year in the tournament. Outside of No. 31 Arizona State and MSU, the tournament features No. 24 Memphis, No. 50 Texas Tech, No. 55 Oregon, No. 61 Drake, No. 69 Liberty and Boise State. 

The Spartans will face Texas Tech in their first match on Friday at 3 p.m. ET/1 p.m. The Red Raiders (6-6, 0-0 Big 12) boast the 48th-ranked doubles team in the NCAA of Demetris Azoides and Reed Collier and 123rd-ranked Olle Wallin in singles.  

MSU entered the ITA Team Rankings for the first time this season this week. Freshman Ozan Baris moved up to No. 29 in the singles rankings, while Baris and doubles partner Max Sheldon rose to No. 20 in the doubles rankings.  

MSU most recently notched a 4-2 win over Western Michigan on March 3. After dropping the doubles point, MSU earned three-straight singles wins from Sheldon, junior Graydon Lair and fifth-year senior Anthony Pero. Junior Luke Baylis clinched the match for the Spartans with a comeback victory on court three.
