Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 10 Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Penn State Men’s Tennis team dropped its match to No.10 Columbia, 4-0,on the road. The squad will return home for matches on Friday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 18.

 

DOUBLES

 

Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio took the No. 1 spot to face Michael Zheng and Theo Winegar. The duo dropped their match 6-1 to Columbia. At No. 2, Nolan Ranger and Ari Cotoulas paired together, but fell 6-2 to No. 24 Nicolas Kotzen and Max Westphal. Alexander Sterin and Ritvik Nadikude were down 5-2 against Alex Kotzen and Sachin Palta on court No. 3, but the match went unfinished, as the doubles point was determined before the conclusion of their match.

 

SINGLES

 

Playing at No. 2, Ranger faced No. 101 Kotzen, but dropped his match 6-1, 6-1. On court No. 5, Sterin fell 6-1, 6-0 to Henry Ruger. At No. 1, Simeunovic was trailing 5-0 in the first set against No. 15 Zheng when he retired.

The three remaining matches went unfinished, as the match was officially clinched by Columbia. At those spots, Matuccio was down, but climbing back, 6-0, 3-2, against Ishaan Ravichander at No. 3. Ari Cotoulas was down 6-3, 5-0 against Westphal at No. 4, and Nadikude was down 6-0, 5-1 to Palta at No. 6.

 

UP NEXT

The squad will host Liberty on Friday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. Closing out the weekend, the Blue and White will face Old Dominion on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Indoor Tennis Center.
