Hokies fall short in season finale to Miami


BLACKSBURG – The Hokies battled all afternoon but fell short to No. 19 Miami, 4-3 in the final match of the regular season. 
 
In doubles, Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu started Tech off with a win on Court 3 as they took a convincing 6-3 win. Miami took Court 1, leaving the clinching point in the hands of Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng on Court 2. The duo successfully clinched the doubles point for the Hokies with a 7-5 win over the No. 67-ranked pair of Leonie Schuknecht and Antonia Balzert. 
 
In singles, Miami took straight-set wins on Courts 1, 2, 4, and 5. 
 
Laima Frosch provided a singles win for the Hokies as she swept Maria Paula Vargas 6-2, 6-3. Rounding off the afternoon, Aksu mounted an impressive three-set comeback against Antonia Balzert on Court 3. After going down 6-2 in the first set, Aksu took the second 7-5 and closed out the win with a 6-3 third set. 
 
UP NEXT: The Hokies head to the ACC Championships in Cary, North Carolina where they will play 14th-seeded Louisville as the eleven seed at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17.
