Gurevich and Kim Earn B1G Singles Win as Tennis Drops Decision at Illinois

URBANA, Ill. — Yana Gurevich and Minchae Kim earned B1G singles victories as No. 75 Rutgers women’s tennis (9-5, 0-3 B1G) dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 46 Illinois (10-5, 2-0 B1G), 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Atkins Tennis Center.
 
Doubles
 
The Illini earned 6-2 and 6-3 decisions on the second and third doubles courts to help themselves to a 1-0 lead in the dual.
 
RU’s first pair of Gurevich and Mai Nguyen held a 4-3 lead on court No. 1 at the conclusion of play.
 
Singles
 
Gurevich earned her second conference singles win of the spring as the graduate student downed Megan Heuser in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3, equalizing the dual at one.
 
Illinois then responded with a pair of wins on the third and sixth courts to put itself on the brink of clinching the match.
 
Kim kept Rutgers alive with a B1G win on court No. 5. The junior dropped the first set to her opponent, before taking the second and third frames to cut Illinois’ lead to 3-2.
 
The Illini went on to win the fourth court, clinching the match.
