Dores Fall in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team fell to 1-2 in SEC play when it dropped Thursday’s match against in-state rival No. 20 Tennessee 6-1.

The Dores battled on all three doubles courts but came up short, giving the Vols the advantage heading into singles play.

In singles, the Vols came out fast, gaining a 3-0 lead on the Dores with wins on Court 5 and Court 6. Michael Ross fought to win his first set in a tiebreak and continued that momentum to win his second set to help put Vanderbilt on the board. Siim Troost fell in his first set but fought back in the second to tie it at 5, but he ultimately fell 7-5 to No. 120 Shunsuke Mitsui.

Angel Diaz (UT) def. Jeremie Casabon 6-2, 6-0

Pat Harper (UT) def. Macsen Sisam 6-1, 6-4

Doubles

No. 4 Harper/Monday (UT) vs. Troost/Casabon 4-2, unfinished

No. 50 Hudd/Mitsui (UT) def. Ross/Cox 6-2

Diaz/Tomas Rodriguez (UT) def. Klopper/Sisam 6-1

 

On Deck: The Commodores will travel to Athens, Georgia on Saturday to face the Bulldogs at noon.
