Cougars Head to Southern California for ITA Sectional Championships


PULLMAN, Wash. (Nov. 6, 2024)  – The Washington State Women’s Tennis team will send three student-athletes to compete at the four-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Sectional Championships, Nov. 7-10 at USC’s Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
 
Competing for the Cougars will be senior Elyse Tse and juniors Eva Alvarez Sande and Maxine Murphy. Alvarez Sande enters as the No. 5 seed in singles and will face BYU’s Yujia Huang in Thursday’s first round. Tse is also in the singles draw and faces Mila Stanojevic of Colorado in her first-round match. In doubles play, Alvarez Sande and Murphy will face UC Santa Barbara’s duo of Anna-Marie Weissheim and Amelia honor, seeded No. 3.

The ITA Sectional Championships will be the last chance for some of the top players from across the country to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships. The 2024 ITA Sectional Championships will have a draw size of the following, (Singles: 32) (Doubles: 16). From this, six singles players from each section (24) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners).

 

Meanwhile, three doubles teams from each section (12) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Sectional Championships (champion, finalist, third place).
